What is Hypnotherapy?
Hypnotherapy is a gentle, evidence-informed approach that uses a calm, focused state of attention (hypnosis) to help people create positive changes in their thoughts, feelings, behaviours, or physical sensations.
Hypnotherapy involves guiding a person into a deeply relaxed, yet awake and aware state where their mind is more focused and open to helpful suggestions. In this state, a trained hypnotherapist uses structured, goal-directed techniques to support changes such as reducing anxiety, managing pain, shifting unhelpful habits, or building confidence and resilience.
It is a collaborative process: clients remain in control, can hear everything that is said, and can choose which suggestions to accept, while using their inner resources to work toward their therapeutic goals. Hypnotherapy is often integrated with other counselling approaches, providing a mind–body way of working that complements standard psychological or medical care.
Who can benefit from Hypnotherapy?
Hypnosis during hypnotherapy can assist you in managing unwanted behaviors or enhancing your ability to deal with anxiety or pain. It's vital to understand that while you may be more receptive to suggestions when under hypnosis, you still maintain control over your actions.
